Licensed HVAC professionals serving West Palm Beach since 1988.
Routine maintenance keeps an air conditioning system operating at its rated efficiency over the months and years of continuous use that South Florida demands. Hopkins Air Conditioning has been providing preventive AC maintenance to West Palm Beach homeowners since 1988, and our certified technicians follow a thorough tune-up process that catches small problems before they become expensive ones.

In West Palm Beach, your air conditioner runs for 10 or more months out of the year, accumulating wear, dust, and performance losses at a rate that more temperate climates never experience. We recommend twice-annual tune-ups for South Florida homes, one in the spring before peak cooling demand, and one in the fall to address summer wear. Our tune-ups are thorough, documented, and performed by NATE-certified technicians who know the failure modes most common on South Florida equipment.
We currently offer a $59 HVAC Tune-up Special that covers a full maintenance visit. Homeowners who want ongoing coverage can enroll in our maintenance agreement, which provides scheduled tune-ups, priority service, and additional benefits designed to protect your investment.
Kacie W. of West Palm Beach had Gazi out in December 2025 for routine maintenance: "Gazi came to my home today for routine AC maintenance and I would have him back every time. He tested the unit, cleaned and sanitized components with photos to show me afterward, along with a verbal report. He went the extra mile to complete."
Our tune-up process covers every major system component that affects efficiency, reliability, and operating life.
We inspect the air filter and replace it if it is dirty or nearing the end of its effective life. A clogged filter restricts airflow across the evaporator coil, forces the system to run longer, and can cause the evaporator coil to freeze over.
A dirty evaporator cannot absorb heat from indoor air efficiently, and a dirty condenser cannot reject that heat outdoors, causing the compressor to run hotter than it was designed to.
We compare current pressures to the manufacturer's target operating pressures. Low suction pressure indicates a refrigerant leak that, if left unaddressed, will cause the compressor to draw liquid refrigerant and suffer irreversible internal damage.
We tighten all electrical connections and test voltage, amperage, and capacitor microfarad readings. Loose connections cause arcing that degrades wiring, and a capacitor reading outside its rated tolerance is a leading indicator of impending compressor or motor failure.
We verify the thermostat reads ambient temperature accurately and cycles the system on and off at the correct set points. An incorrectly calibrated thermostat wastes energy and adds runtime hours to the compressor.
We flush and clear the condensate drain line to prevent backups that can trigger the safety float switch, shut the system off, and cause water damage. In South Florida's high-humidity environment, condensate lines accumulate biological growth quickly.
A dirty blower wheel is aerodynamically less efficient, reducing airflow and adding load to the motor, which shortens its operational life.
Mary H. of West Palm Beach described her December 2025 maintenance visit: "Had a wonderful experience with our maintenance visit today! Very professional and polite. Truly appreciated the friendly and thoughtful way they inspected everything and told us what should be done to prevent any possible failures of our system. Hopkins Air is a good and reputable company you can trust!"
At the end of every maintenance visit, we verify your system is operating at or near its rated performance benchmarks. We measure the temperature differential between return air and supply air and confirm it falls within the 14 to 22 degree range. We record refrigerant pressures and compare them to the manufacturer's target pressures. We document electrical readings at all major components and confirm all capacitors are within tolerance. You receive a written service report with all measurements recorded before our technician leaves.
Cleone P. of West Palm Beach had a full system inspection in February 2026: "Gazi was AMAZING. Fully inspected our full system, including the outdoor unit on the roof of my townhouse. He fully serviced the entire unit, alerted me to possible problems with the system, and implemented solutions."
The compressor is the most expensive component in a central AC system and the most vulnerable to deferred maintenance. Low refrigerant charge causes it to run hot. A dirty condenser coil raises the head pressure that the compressor works against. A failed capacitor forces the compressor to start under full load with every startup cycle. Each of these conditions is detectable during a routine maintenance visit and correctable at a fraction of the cost of compressor replacement.
The U.S. Department of Energy notes that regularly serviced air conditioners can maintain their efficiency ratings and extend their useful life significantly compared to neglected systems. In South Florida, where a system failure also means rapid humidity loss, routine maintenance is the most cost-effective way to protect your cooling system and your home.
If your system is approaching the end of its service life, maintenance visits give us an opportunity to have a proactive conversation about AC replacement before a failure leaves you without cooling in summer. We also offer ductless HVAC systems and zoning systems if your home has comfort challenges a standard replacement cannot fully address.

Some of our frequently asked questions about air conditioning maintenance in Southeast Florida include:
We recommend twice-annual tune-ups: once in spring before peak cooling season, and once in fall after the heavy summer period. South Florida's extended cooling season puts significantly more annual runtime hours on your system than homes in cooler climates. Our maintenance agreement makes staying on schedule easy.
Our tune-up covers air filter inspection, coil inspection and cleaning, refrigerant pressure check, electrical connection tightening, capacitor testing, thermostat calibration, condensate drain clearing, and blower motor inspection. All measurements are documented and you receive a written service report. Check our specials for current offer details.
Routine preventive maintenance does not require a permit. If our technician identifies a component needing replacement during a maintenance visit, we will advise you whether that specific repair involves any permit requirements under Palm Beach County regulations.
Yes. The compressor is particularly sensitive to the conditions deferred maintenance creates: low refrigerant charge, restricted airflow, and electrical stress from failing capacitors. Addressing these during routine maintenance prevents accelerated wear. A well-maintained system typically provides closer to its rated 15-year service life than a neglected one.
